About us

Ancient Bible Coins is owned and operated by Rex Turner. Having worked in the rare coin business for over 40 years, Rex has had the opportunity to assist thousands of investors and collectors with valuable and rare collections. Coins that have a unique or fascinating story connection are far and away the most popular.

Although the age of a coin is important, the condition and authenticity are much more critical. Unlike the majority of online dealers who simply “authenticate” coins themselves, Ancient Bible Coins eliminates the danger of receiving a counterfeit, (a high risk), by only offering coins that have been inspected and certified by one of Israel’s most respected antiquities experts.

Our Israeli supplier, L. Alexander Wolfe, is an official Israeli antiquities supplier of record. He has worked directly with the Israel Antiquities Authority in authenticating many rare Biblical era coins and other artifacts.

Every Widow’s Mite offered by Ancient Bible Coins is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity by L. Alexander Wolfe.

Most bronze Widow Mite (prutah/lepton) coins were crudely hand-struck in large quantities over 2,000 years ago, under the reign of Alexander Jannaeus, King of Judea from 103 to 76 BCE and were widely used in commerce for many years, including the era of Jesus. Widow Mite coins are slightly smaller than our dimes.

Like today, where many people toss their spare change into jars, cans and other containers, in ancient days it was common to store coins in clay jars, or other vessels which are consequently uncovered in some archeological excavations.

Every coin is unique and was originally struck bearing the images of an anchor on the obverse and a radiant star on the reverse. (Interestingly, in scripture references, we find in Daniel 12:3 “…those who lead many to righteousness are like the stars, forever and ever”, also in Hebrews 6:19 “This hope we have is the anchor of the soul”.

Reviews

your own testimony

One of the surprising blessings we hear from customers who wear the Widow’s Mite necklace is about the doors that it opens for them to share with curious inquirers. In some instances complete strangers who are attracted to the unique ancient coin will inquire as to the history or the story behind the unusual coin. Jesus not only singled out the poor widow’s offering but declared she gave the greatest gift of all because it was all she had to give. Telling the Widow’s Mite story can become a wonderful way to share what is truly the “Greatest Gift and Greatest Story” ever told, which is Christ himself. We hope you will share with us your personal story concerning your unique experience wearing the Widow’s Mite necklace. (Please submit your testimonial here:)
